Social Media PR 2.0
Social media is the two-way exchange of news and information across online platforms like blogs, social networks and video sharing sites. Social media creates extraordinary communication opportunities from reputation management to messaging and information flow.
Social media moves traditional media relations to the web. It’s there that Mediatonic PR helps its clients tap into online influencers - blogger and social media relations, running Internet marketing campaigns, and writing exceptional web content.
Facebook boasts more than 50 million in North America, over 8 million will connect on LinkedIn, and another 15 million on Twitter. Social Media networks are now the preferred tool for consumers to communicate with each other – and directly with you. How strong is your brand profile on these networks?
Twitter is the new blog, but rather micro-blogging. Twitter lets you send 140-character “Tweets” containing words, photos, videos and links to your followers, connecting you to them in real-time. Over 15 million people are micro-blogging on Twitter right now, including your customers, stakeholders, employees, investors and competitors. You should be too.
Media Relations: Economic crisis has hit traditional media hard. Mass layoffs at CityTV, CBC, 24 Hrs & many newspapers makes it more difficult to reach the mainstream media you need to. Social media like Twitter not only creates a new path to the reduced media pool, but also informs what stories media are working on, what info they’re looking for, and what topics and trends they’re following – all in real time.
Crisis Management: US Airways had no Twitter profile and failed to effectively monitor and manage thousands of tweets moments after Flight 1549 landed in the Hudson River. A faithful ex-employee on Twitter stepped in to manage the media interest and by default became the company spokesperson.
Customer Service: Following the backlash of its highly publicized February 2007 flight delays, JetBlue has moved from a hated brand to a customer service hero with Twitter. Communicate with passengers about weather delays to fielding questions on why they charge $7 for pillows and blankets.
Personal Connection: Companies like Zappos ‘get it’ – Zappo CEO, Tony Hsieh tweets about fav movies, stubbing his toe and important company updates to over 421,000 followers (Wow!). With authentic & transparent interaction they enhance their brand and dramatically grow Zappos’ bottom line.
